Rita Solomko is an artist, filmmaker, and photographer currently based in Marina, California. She has worked in the media of painting, printmaking, publishing, drawing, photography, and film. Her passion for capturing life’s moments on film began with an old Zenith camera her grandfather gave her for her 10th birthday, and now spans fifteen years. Margarita holds an A.A. in Video Design and Production and a B.A. from the University of California Monterey Bay (as of 2018).

Her recent projects include The Ross’s (2016), a short documentary about rescued dogs and the couple who foster and rehabilitate them on their farm in San Juan Bautista; an interview with a transgender poet, artist, and activist Vicky (Adrian) Osoria, which explores transgender identity development as well as the creative process of an artist; and a series of artworks that combine painting, drawing, photography, graphic design and collage. In 2016 Margarita has participated in the creation of 60 Years of Jazz: The Monterey Jazz Festival, a documentary led by a well-respected filmmaker Fred Tio.

As a photography/video intern at SFMOMA and the MAH, Margarita has gained hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment, capturing events and contributing to a wide range of social media campaigns. Apart from being used in a variety of brochures, zines and flyers, her work has appeared in print in Good Times Santa Cruz and online in local and international publications.
